...is the sound of an old typewriter

A few weeks back I went to a thrift store that was run by an old man. It was two little rooms with tables filled with random stuff, just like a thrift store should be. Porcelain figures, china, old magazines, cd's, curtains in boxes under the tables, little plastic bags with long lost treasures and just things EVERYWHERE. After having walked around and carefully looked on and under every table I found this just as I was about to leave. I noticed the shape of the box and thought to myself, "is that..?" and yes. It was. A typewriter.

I opened the box with a little help from the old man, and tried to hide my excitement as I saw the prettiest blue typewriter I've ever seen. There were even some paper left in it, and I tried typing a little. The key levers got stuck, but the ribbon still worked. I asked how much it was, and the man answered that since it wasn't working properly, I could get it for cheap. I had bought another typewriter a couple of years ago for 30 kr, and this one was prettier, so I said I'd be willing to pay 40 kr for it. The man said "DEAL" and all of a sudden I was the owner to a Remington Holiday.

It is a cheap plastic typewriter they made in the early 60's. The case is made in Italy, but the mechanics is from the factory in Holland (source). However, I love the fact that it's plastic since I can take it with me out on the meadow whenever I feel like writing. It really is the best place to write letters. Watching the sun do gown and listen to the birds in the woods serenade each other and myself.

I now have three typewriters. All of them are portable ones and rather small, which I like. My dad just sighed (but smiled) when I came home with my Holiday. I was the happiest girl, and I still am. Because guess what? It now works with almost no problems at all. You just gotta pound away and the letters show off nicely and the key levers don't get stuck too often. Great bargain and great letters and poetry to be written with it!
